gravetemple was formed in 2006 as a side-project of the band sunn o))) by oren ambarchi, stephen o malley and attila csihar. the group formed initially to tour in israel summer 06, creating several recordings which eventually became the holy down album, which was released on southern lord recordings in 2007. at the time of the israel tour, the lebanon war started and was in action. in summer 08 the trio reformed together with the addition of australian drummer matt skitz sanders for a short european tour culminating at a headlining performance at supersonic festival in birmingham. in late 2009 the original trio reconvened for a special one-off concert at londons institute of contemporary arts. april 2013 marks the first set of live action since that period, and a new chapter in the ongoing system of the related network.
ambient/ruin was created with the 2008 quartet, elements of tape collage, concrete, field recordings blend within a strong geographically diverse (parts were recorded in japan, australia, paris and israel) suite of heavy minimalist/maximalist music, black/death metal and drone. the culmination of these efforts become the music, literally, of sadistik exekution meeting phill niblock.

prime numbers return with m7. the first side is taken by a remix of wireman’s >armour<, the original of which was included on pn04 released at the end of last year. the remix is from move d (deep space network, source records), he ups the tempo and in trademark fashion softens the surfaces of the original, warming the core of the track whilst creating a bass heavy groove with twisting beats, synths and a husky hypnotic vocal sample. the flip includes two tracks. to start we have >crushed< by actress. darren j. cunningham aka actress runs the much lauded werk records and this track is taken from his limited cd only album >hazyville< (released on werk in the autumn of last year ) >crushed< is slo-mo, extra bass heavy, low slung house with an addictive lofi synth riff and submerged strings. the track bumps along with hiss and crackle to good affect before turning into a badalamenti-esque loop to finish. to round things off be, the up & coming manchester based producer provides >when you left<. be cut his teeth with the chicago based still music and a great al hudson reedit which found extensive dj support on its release. >when you left< is a shuffling downbeat house groove with a jazz sentiment featuring deep rhodes keys and clipped drums, the track breaks up into a bluesy accapella section then builds up to a more direct 4/4 groove to the end

one year old and four releases deep, retreat present its first 2010 offering with the long awaited second volume of the treats series. featuring 3 exclusive tracks from session victim and quarion, treats vol.2 showcases the producers ability to move beyond the traditional house sound, incorporating more soul and disco influences as well as coming up with a few surprises! session victim start things off with the magical danish daughters, a slow groover that begins in a gentle but assured way, sparking your interest with its infectious guitar and piano loop until the beat kicks in and makes you irrepressibly shake that thang. adding a synth line here or a bell sound there, the duo keep the pace of the track steady until a startling guitar riff breaks it down, giving way to the original loop to return in its full glory, complete with extra organ dashes!

noir & sandy rivera join forces on this one. each delivering their sexy take on sotom (stay on top of me) and jimpster finish off the package with his excellent remix.

droid recordings presents a new 12 inch from dj hyperactive, whose jacking chicago sound has evolved over the years into a deeper sound that maintains his signature infectious drive. on 25 hours, an undulating, bassy synth line builds into the machine-voiced partiers dream of 25 hours in a day, before the track takes off with neck-breaking snare and clap combos and proceeds to rebuild. raíz pulls the track from the depths to deliver something more brash and energetic. there is more at play here, with the 3-note riff tweaked throug the tracks duration, and the words 25 looped through a series of insistent, smashing snares. in the final mix, newcomer markus suckut follows his recent remixes of xhin and pfirter with an unexpected and idiosyncratic interpretation. tonal elements are drawn into the lower registers, while the vocal sample slithers around the mix. the syncopated elements of the original surface with in an alternative mode, dark and driving.

h a ll o h a l os first release and it is 001 for revno records also ... off to good start we think! h a ll o h a l o is a stockholm based anglo swedish unit formed when jon dasilva (hacienda/rush hour/ellum/soma) met inventor and multi instrumentalist jonas nilsson in the first week in his new home, stockholm. apparently nilsson and dasilva became best friends sharing their more nuttier studio obsessions… here h a ll o h a l o serve up some killer italo - flavoured disco and deep house with the doubleheader tuff beat / yessir. this is electronic music of the highest order…muscular and inventive and, dare i say, very future…in a blade runner kind of way! which brings us neatly to the name, which, according to the pair, is a pretend title for a philip k dick novel. there is no pretending with the music though ... ace deep house - incoming!

paxton fettel intrinsically invites you to the very core of his soul with mana, a heart wrenching ode to suave and unassuming house music. real instruments and penetrating decisiveness serve an emotionally rendered piece of the blues, perpetually enticing mood binding empathetic maneuvers. paxton orchestrates feeling with musicality well beyond the average clique, despairing yet hopeful, slickly jazzed and upfront drumming produce a mad example of what he is capable of pulling off/straight out of copenhagen we get treated to yet another fine instance of a paxton fettel classic with they go unseen.

ms. smooth socal soul meets mr. nocal dirtybird swagger and they have a baby together. that baby is justin jay and at 19 years old he is already making his 3rd appearance on dirtybird. i have a feeling this is justin jays breakout record. the a-side static is at 119 bpm and will sweep you up then rip your pants off. but even when you get hit with the massive bassline, an old school anchor stays intact. waves b-side has a classic deep dirtybird feeling, with tuned 808s and a surprising melodic element showing off the sweeter side of this up and coming young gun. justin jay has more potential than anyone i have heard in a while and if he continues to play like he has been lately, he has a long dj career ahead of him as well.

must is pure sonic architecture that breathes and sweats, this is how asphalt and steel sounds in contact with rain and sun. the hunch synthetic of pablo bolivars interlinings, reaches in must a degree of warmth and unpublished maturity. oblivious to this musician modes and contemporary fashions, he deliver the album he always wanted to do. idm, deep house, soulfull and sunny electronics designed and crafted with the meticulousness of a goldsmith. songs as sophisticated as friendly, loved but without raising fears. never bolivar has been as musical as now, delight and enjoyment in each beat. that is must, an album to listen carefully.

this ep marks a newbeginning in my career. since some time now, >the fog burns off< and we get more and more stable in the buisness. last year we were on the road quite a bit and we found many new friends. people from other cities, who believe in the same things, who do similar stuff and who are of the same kidney as we are. so that makes me very happy, which reflects in the music. for the first time i feel like coming home, although we are at the beginning of our journey into the industry yet.

here we present good vibrations, the debut ep on local talk from canadian producer orazio fantini. the best thing with this ep is that it is simply straight up house music that is both deep yet raw and funky all at the same time. basically, its very local talk ,) first track, to the ball, starts off with a bubbling bass line, followed with shuffling hi-hats and swinging beat that is glued together by glistering synth stabs, infectious to say the least. turn the record over for feel it, which showcases fantinis clever use of vocal samples blended together with the perfect swing and last not but not least, on hold is a stripped track but with all the necessary elements to make the feet move.

is it balearic return with an absolutely superb ep from new signings saint petersburg disco spin spdsc are a collective of live musicians and djs from russia this is their debut release for iib, but a handful of tracks on labels like glenview & teardrop have made serious waves - skillfully combining live disco musicianship with the dj sensibilities which shape their sound. from club friendly and hooky dancefloor tracks to blissfully executed downtempo jams. all pulled off with a loose but pin sharp production style that really makes them stand out i never leave you leads on the a side, a steadily assembled sunset workout, with brass elements defining the groove. marwencol manages to deftly pull off a balearic wu-tang move, whil love spin is a beautifully lolloping beach bar jam, which comes complete with a very dubbed-out dub version too.

starting things off we have runnin out, a mid-tempo memphis horn-led beauty of a track originally out in 1968. soulbrigada take the original, toughen up the bottom end, add in kicks, claps and percussion and the odd filter, speed things up a tad and lengthen the track getting the most out of mable john s effortless and gargantuan diva-esque vocal delivery. on the flip we have another soulful treat with a killer rare groove cut from 1971. originally recorded by lee sain (and arranged by charles miller) soulbrigada extend the intro, add in drums, samples and effects all adding to a truly infectious groove and vocal that will have you screaming out for more.
